Capturing the Moment

Roccascalenga, Italy

The key characteristic of the proposed project is creating a building that has a minimal impact to the site views and landscape and is still capable of balancing the existing context and medieval architecture using reflection. The concept for the design is to capture the moment in time with the use of illusions. In creating an illusion aspect, using a sustainable reflective exterior fabric skin of the building allows the building to blend into the context, while still catching the attention from different points throughout the area. Using a reflected type of surface in the design can provide a visual interaction with the rural context by grasping different moments and changing the viewers’ observation each day of the year. The mirrored surfaces can display the landscape and make the building have a unique perception when viewed by others.
